The Future of Interfaces

We are in the midst of a transition to AI — a once/twice in a century advance for humanity.

Today, we use AI with interfaces that mimic Web 2.0. You go to ChatGPT and type what you want. Sometimes you upload an image.

Apps that use foundational models often plug AI’s power into existing SaaS tools or create SaaS like interfaces. Often, this is to enhance usability as that is how we are used to interfacing with digital products.

But already here is voice as an interface to AI. Also already here, but in its nascency, are robots as an interface to AI. And what is very exciting is research of thoughts as an interface to AI.

Our existing web and mobile interface are optimized to enable our interaction with web 2.0’s capabilities. As the internet iterates to its next AI-centric version, our interfaces will change, bringing a more omnipresent (thanks to the interface) and omnipotent (thanks to the AI) resource.
