Today was our first full day in Tokyo. We walked around several neighborhoods including Shibuya, Shinjuku, and Harajuku. We are eating well, waking up early to get egg sandwiches for early breakfast and walking for Soba for late breakfast before having two separate lunches – one in a restaurant within a department store called Isitan and then later at a Yakitori joint in Piss Alley. It was a good day (and it’s only 2pm!). Tonight we head for sushi at Sushisho Masa.

We feel very comfortable in Tokyo. While we don’t speak a lick of Japanese, getting around is easy with Google Maps and the fact that street signs have a lot of English helps as well. There is an energy to the city similar to New York, London or Hong Kong. People are friendly. Service is very good even if communication can be a barrier.

We have three more days here before going to Kyoto which I hope also gives off the city vibe. There is a magic to big cosmopolitan areas such that if you are comfortable in one of them, then you’ll be comfortable in most all of them.
